As distinguished innovator in the field of Electrical Engineering, scholar, Provost Emeritus of Stanford University, and former President of Southern Methodist University Foundation for Science and Engineering, he has made contributions to education and to engineering. For his pioneering research in radio engineering, he has been decorated by the governments of the United States and Great Britain. Under his guidance as Dean of Engineering, Stanford University became a community of technical scholars with a national reputation for innovative technology. In recognition of his contribution to engineering education, his continuing efforts to build a strong and enduring educational enterprise for young engineers, and his distinction as a scholar and administrator, Southern Methodist University is proud to confer upon him the degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa.
